WeLion New Energy ships Nio EV pack exceeding 1000 km range with liquid-solid hybrid cells in 2023

WeLion's 2023 Nio pack provides the only public deployment metric for its semi-solid-state design. No technical link exists between military blood stabilization research and battery electrolytes. Cost and volume constraints continue to limit wider adoption.

DARPA's $73 million program targets dried plasma, platelets and red blood cells for 2029 field deployment, separate from any battery chemistry work. WeLion's hybrid cells combine liquid electrolyte with solid components to raise energy density above standard lithium-ion while improving safety margins. Production scale-up data remains limited to the single Nio pack release and subsequent higher-density prototypes still in development.

⚡ Prediction

WeLion: volume production of cells above 400 Wh/kg reaches <1000 units by end of 2027
