SNAIL-HBAR coupling enables proposed mechanical trisqueezing via three-wave mixing in cQAD

The arXiv proposal derives a flux-tunable trisqueezing interaction in SNAIL-coupled HBARs that produces star-shaped mechanical Wigner functions. It identifies drive conditions to isolate the cubic term but remains theoretical. Experimental validation would close a key gap in continuous-variable quantum gates.

The preprint derives an effective trisqueezing Hamiltonian by combining SNAIL cubic terms with parametric flux modulation at specific drive frequencies, suppressing competing Kerr and bilinear interactions. Circuit parameters drawn from existing HBAR-transmon devices predict coupling rates sufficient for observable Wigner-function negativity within coherence times reported in prior cQAD experiments. This approach directly targets the missing odd-order gate required for universal continuous-variable computation, unlike earlier quartic-only demonstrations that relied on transmon Kerr nonlinearity.

Context from related SNAIL-based microwave work shows three-wave mixing can be tuned with flux while maintaining high Q, yet mechanical implementations add phonon-loss channels absent in pure electromagnetic systems. The proposal quantifies achievable rates for current fabrication but omits full noise budgeting, leaving open whether trisqueezing can outpace decoherence before higher-order corrections dominate. Successful isolation would also enable quantum-limited mechanical amplifiers for precision sensing, extending beyond computation.

Next steps include fabricating the SNAIL-HBAR circuit and performing Wigner tomography under calibrated flux drives; a threshold of 3 dB trisqueezing gain with preserved negativity would falsify the main competing-term analysis. Replication in two independent foundries within 24 months would strengthen claims of hardware efficiency.
