Federal Filing Lists Ilhan Omar as 'Ilhan Nur Said Elmi' Amid Immigration Probe; Trump Demands Resignation

A federal court filing signed by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro on October 21, 2026, refers to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) as “Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar” in connection with applications to unseal materials related to a search warrant executed at her Washington, D.C., residence as part of an ongoing immigration fraud investigation.

President Donald Trump seized on the reference in social media posts and at a rally, asserting that Omar used a “fake name” to be sworn into Congress and calling for her immediate resignation, claiming the Democrat Party had “conceded her seat.”

The New York Post obtained and published a 1997 British marriage certificate for a woman identified as Omar’s sister, Leila Nur Said, listing the father as “Nur Said Elmi,” a military officer from Somalia. Multiple sources told the Post this matches one of the names used by Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, who served as a colonel in the Somali army.

These developments revive longstanding but unproven allegations that Omar’s 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi was fraudulent and that he is her brother. Omar has repeatedly denied the claims, stating her name has always been Ilhan Omar and that insinuations about her ex-husband being her brother are “absurd and offensive.”

The court filing itself does not establish fraud or prove biological relation; it uses the alternative name in the context of the probe, which also involves financial disclosures and a recent home raid where DNA and documents were reportedly collected. Outlets including the Star Tribune, Fox News, and Washington Post have covered the filing and Trump’s response, noting the allegations remain unsubstantiated.

Omar’s office called the name discrepancy “completely false,” while Trump described it as evidence of fraud warranting removal from Congress.
