OpenAI Publishes GPT-6.1 Terra API Documentation
OpenAI listed GPT-6.1 Terra in its public API docs without benchmarks or training details. The move continues the pattern of incremental model-name releases ahead of full evaluation disclosure. Operational impact remains gated on subsequent technical reports.
The announcement consists of a single index page and an API reference entry. No training compute figures, no benchmark tables, and no deployment telemetry appear in the posted documents. The entry lists only context length, tokenizer version, and rate-limit tiers.
Prior OpenAI releases followed a pattern: o1-preview carried internal evals, GPT-4o shipped with measured MMLU and HumanEval deltas, and both included safety report links. GPT-6.1 Terra supplies none of these artifacts. The absence matches the documentation style used for early limited-access models rather than general availability.
Operationally this means developers can request the model name but receive no performance baseline against which to size workloads or cost forecasts. Capacity planning therefore rests on the same rate-limit numbers already published for o1 and GPT-4o. No new inference hardware or region data is disclosed.
Next steps hinge on whether OpenAI issues an accompanying technical report or evaluation card within 30 days; absence of that document by then would align the release with the limited-preview tier rather than a production flagship.
OpenAI: no public benchmark table for GPT-6.1 Terra will appear before 2025-03-01
