130 Localized FRBs Yield 6.5σ DM-Galaxy Cross-Correlation, Disfavor No-Feedback Baryon Model at 9σ
The McCarty et al. measurement with 130 localized FRBs detects the DM-galaxy cross-correlation at 6.5σ and rules out a no-feedback baryon model at 9σ while showing consistency with kSZ results. The work demonstrates that FRB two-point statistics can jointly constrain baryonic feedback and the growth rate fσ8. Larger future samples will turn this into a precision probe of cosmic baryons.
The chief limitation is the modest sample size and the reliance on photometric redshifts for most galaxies; spectroscopic follow-up of both hosts and the galaxy sample will be required to push the measurement into the precision-cosmology regime. Larger DSA-110 and CHIME/FRB catalogs expected within three years should deliver the necessary statistics.
McCarty et al.: With 500 localized FRBs and full DESI spectroscopy by 2028, the joint FRB-kSZ constraint on fσ8 will reach 5% precision, tighter than current kSZ-only limits.
