LabAgent arXiv:2609.13437 tops commercial agents on four life-science benchmarks
LabAgent provides a reproduce-and-discovery harness that records verified skills and corrective experience for continuous lab work. It ranked first across four life-science domains and reproduced a published figure. The approach directly mitigates knowledge loss from personnel turnover.
LabAgent implements two mechanisms: executable skill verification and correction logging. These components address lab staff turnover by preserving method replication and error avoidance records. The system was tested on four life-science domains where it outperformed commercial agents and reproduced one published figure without deviation.
Benchmark results show exact figure reproduction and domain-specific ranking gains. No external datasets or additional training steps are reported beyond the harness itself. Operational continuity improves because new personnel inherit verified procedures rather than undocumented tacit knowledge.
Prior agent frameworks focused on single-task execution without persistent correction memory. LabAgent adds inheritance tracking suited to multi-year research programs. This targets the documented loss of methods after student graduation or staff changes.
Next deployments will test integration with existing lab databases and extension to additional experimental pipelines. Threshold for adoption is sustained first-place ranking plus 90 percent reproduction success on held-out tasks within 12 months.
