Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) has publicly warned that "something dark is going on" after multiple top scientists and researchers with connections to advanced technology and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) have either disappeared or been found dead in recent months. Retired Air Force Major General William Neil McCasland, who held key roles in Air Force science and technology programs and maintained links to the UFO community after retirement, vanished while hiking in New Mexico in late February 2026. His case has drawn attention due to his prior oversight of projects potentially tied to anomalous materials and aerospace research. Months earlier, rocket scientist Monica Reza, who had worked on related programs, disappeared during a hike in California under similar circumstances. Additional cases include the killing of MIT plasma physicist Nuno Loureiro in December 2025, the shooting death of California astrophysicist Carl Grillmair in February 2026, and the discovery of Novartis chemical biology director Jason Thomas's body in a Massachusetts lake in March. Burchett has stated that intelligence agencies have obstructed inquiries into these incidents and suggested the individuals possessed sensitive knowledge, including potential involvement with recovered UAP technology. Separately, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency registered the domains aliens.gov and alien.gov in recent weeks, occurring alongside pledges from the Trump administration to release additional UAP-related files.
