UK Biobank Data Ties MIND and AHEI-2010 Adherence to 20-30% Lower CVD Events in Cancer Survivors
Observational UK Biobank analysis links several healthy dietary patterns to reduced cardiovascular events and longer survival after cancer. Benefits appear across multiple indices rather than one prescriptive diet. Randomized trials are needed to move from association to clinical recommendation.
Evidence quality is moderate: large cohort size and long follow-up allow precise hazard estimates, yet the absence of randomization and dietary measurement error limit causal inference. A pragmatic RCT with five-year CVD incidence as primary outcome would be required to confirm clinical utility.
Chen et al.: A 5-year pragmatic RCT of MIND diet counseling in 4,000 cancer survivors will show ≥15% relative reduction in major CVD events versus usual care by 2032.
