Facebook Pages limited to two free link posts per month without Meta Verified

Ashley Gullen posted on Mastodon that Facebook Pages face a hard cap of two link posts monthly unless the page owner pays for Meta Verified. The post linked to observed enforcement on multiple Pages and triggered a 292-comment Hacker News thread with 342 points. No official Meta changelog or help-center update has appeared yet.

Prior Meta policy changes show the same pattern. In 2023, organic reach for Pages dropped after Reels prioritization; paid distribution became the only reliable channel. Current link restrictions extend that model from reach throttling to explicit content quotas. Data from SimilarWeb and internal Page analytics shared in the HN thread indicate link posts previously drove 15-25% of referral traffic for small Pages.

Operationally, Page operators must either reduce external linking or absorb the subscription cost. The change concentrates posting power among verified accounts, which Meta can more directly bill and monitor. Smaller creators lose a free distribution mechanism that previously required no additional data disclosure beyond standard Page metrics.

Next steps depend on whether Meta publishes an official policy document or expands the restriction to additional post types. Enforcement logs from affected Pages will provide the first measurable signal within 30 days.
