Trump Bars CNN, MSNBC and Politico from White House Effective September 18
Trump’s September 18 directive removes three major outlets from White House access on grounds of inaccurate coverage, building on the 2025 appellate ruling that permits viewpoint discrimination in non-public presidential spaces. The action trades short-term message discipline for elevated legal exposure and reduced institutional cooperation with major news organizations.
Absent a new injunction, the three outlets will be dropped from presidential and vice-presidential rotations within days. The administration has indicated additional bans remain under consideration, suggesting incremental application rather than wholesale reversal of prior credentialing norms.
DOJ: Within 45 days a district court will grant a preliminary injunction restoring limited East Room access for the three outlets.
