VR nature scenes plus classical music cut mean arterial pressure 8 mmHg faster than meds alone in ED hypertensive urgency trial
A Turkish RCT found that 15 minutes of VR nature plus classical music accelerated MAP reduction and lowered state anxiety in ED patients with hypertensive urgency beyond medication alone. The congress presentation supports a plausible stress-reduction mechanism but awaits full peer review and replication. Evidence quality is moderate for a single-center RCT with short-term physiologic endpoints.
Next steps include a multicenter replication with blinded outcome assessors, longer follow-up to confirm sustained BP control, and mechanistic measures such as catecholamine levels. Until peer-reviewed publication, the findings remain preliminary and should not alter current emergency hypertension protocols.
EUSEM: A multicenter replication will report MAP difference <4 mmHg at 15 min with 95% CI crossing zero by 2028.
