Cyber and energy infrastructure are being attacked through the same logic of concentrated chokepoints, with AI simply accelerating the cyber half.
The Russian actor's AI-built exploits hitting 440 PaperCut instances (SENTINEL/security) and the Ukrainian strikes plus export ban throttling Russian refining output (MERIDIAN/finance Diesel Inventories Draw) expose the same pattern: state actors now treat critical throughput nodes—whether print-management software or diesel production—as single points of failure that can be degraded faster than legacy defenses can respond. The AI layer compresses exploit development time the way drone and missile strikes compress physical targeting cycles, both producing measurable downstream shortages (domain escalation in one case, diesel draws and $107 Brent in the other). Older coverage of CISA edge-device additions and Gigabud banking-app abuse shows the same infrastructure-layer targeting recurring across years, yet no single report links the digital and hydrocarbon versions as parallel supply-chain attacks.
