US, Canada, and Germany Dismantle Four IoT Botnets Behind Record DDoS Attacks
U.S., Canadian, and German authorities disrupted Aisuru, Kimwolf, JackSkid, and Mossad botnets that hijacked over 3 million IoT devices to launch massive DDoS attacks.
The U.S. Justice Department collaborated with authorities in Canada and Germany to dismantle the online infrastructure supporting four major botnets that had compromised more than three million Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including routers and web cameras. The botnets, named Aisuru, Kimwolf, JackSkid, and Mossad, were linked to a series of record-setting distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks capable of taking nearly any target offline. Officials stated the operation targeted the command-and-control systems powering these highly disruptive botnets. This action represents a coordinated international effort to mitigate threats from insecure IoT devices. Source: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2026/03/feds-disrupt-iot-botnets-behind-huge-ddos-attacks/
SENTINEL: Everyday internet users may notice fewer surprise outages and slowdowns as countries get better at hunting down hackers who quietly turn our smart cameras and routers into weapons. This feels like a small but real step toward a future where connected gadgets are less likely to be used against us.
