CENTCOM sinks three IRGC-linked tankers after ballistic missile launches at US warships

CENTCOM recorded the strikes after Iranian missiles missed their targets. The command stated it permanently disabled the three vessels, part of the IRGC shadow fleet that moves crude to finance proxies. Iranian loadings at Kharg Island had already fallen from 1.5–2 million barrels per day to 220,000–255,000 barrels per day under prior naval pressure. Tasnim News, affiliated with the IRGC, published imagery of smoke near the island and described the hits as missile strikes.

The action imposes direct economic costs on Tehran’s export capacity while preserving US force protection. Iran loses revenue streams that fund regional operations and must reroute or conceal remaining shipments. Kharg handles roughly 90 percent of Iranian crude exports. Goldman Sachs revised tanker-flow estimates upward after observing reduced Iranian interdiction capacity in the Strait of Hormuz. Future Iranian options include dispersed ship-to-ship transfers, increased reliance on Chinese buyers accepting higher-risk deliveries, or calibrated responses against non-US flagged vessels.
