NIST Blinded Replication of 2007 BIPM Experiment Leaves Big G Discrepancy Unresolved
A decade-long blinded NIST replication of the BIPM G measurement reproduced the earlier value but left the 2.7-sigma tension with other determinations intact. The result strengthens the case for unrecognized systematics over new gravitational physics while highlighting the value of pre-analysis blinding in precision metrology.
Future campaigns will combine multiple independent techniques under joint blinding protocols and target 1 ppm precision by 2030. If the offset survives, metrology institutes may adopt method-specific correction factors; if it vanishes, the field will gain that current tensions are experimental artifacts rather than hints of new physics.
Schlamminger: The next joint BIPM-NIST campaign will reduce the method-dependent offset below 1.5 sigma by 2029 or confirm a geometry-linked systematic at 4 sigma.
