BOSS DR12 Delivers First Joint Full-Shape 2PCF+3PCF Cosmological Constraints

First real-data joint full-shape 2PCF+3PCF analysis on BOSS DR12 yields 10–29% tighter ΛCDM constraints, driven by BAO content in 3PCF triangles. Evidence quality is set by 2048-mock covariance and emulator accuracy down to 60 h⁻¹ Mpc. Future wide-field surveys are now positioned to test the mild shifts reported here.

The analysis employs the velocity difference generating function framework with complete Eulerian bias, infrared resummation and non-perturbative Fingers-of-God damping. Theoretical predictions are generated by dedicated emulators; the covariance is constructed from 2048 MultiDark-Patchy mocks and compressed for stable inversion. The model is validated down to r_min^3PCF ≈ 60 h⁻¹ Mpc, where goodness-of-fit tests remain acceptable.

Gains arise principally from additional BAO information encoded in the 3PCF triangle configurations that are inaccessible to the 2PCF monopole and quadrupole alone. This constitutes the first real-data extension of the configuration-space framework previously validated in real space by the Euclid Collaboration.

The result exposes mild parameter shifts that future surveys (DESI, Euclid) can test at higher significance. Because the 3PCF covariance is still estimated from mocks, residual mock-data mismatch remains the dominant systematic; larger-volume simulations or analytic covariance models will be required to push below the current precision floor.

Next steps include extending the joint analysis to DESI Year-1 data and incorporating higher-order statistics such as the integrated bispectrum to further isolate potential ΛCDM tensions.

⚡ Prediction

Guidi et al.: DESI Year-1 full-shape joint analysis will detect >2σ shift in h relative to Planck 2018 by mid-2027.
