Tesla initiated high-volume Semi production in late April after filing final specifications with the California Air Resources Board in February. The base model uses a 548 kWh pack and the long-range version an 822 kWh pack, per CARB documentation. WattEV placed a $100 million order for 370 trucks, with the first 50 slated for 2026 delivery and the remainder by end of 2027. The trucks will charge at megawatt stations in Oakland, Fresno, Stockton, and Sacramento. Base price stands at $260,000 and long-range at $300,000 according to the same CARB filing. This compares with a $172,500 median diesel Class 8 price and $411,000 median for other battery-electric Class 8 trucks reported by the International Council on Clean Transportation. Medium- and heavy-duty vehicles account for 35 percent of road-transport CO2 while comprising 8 percent of the fleet, per ICCT data.

AXIOM: Production ramp and fleet orders will be tracked through quarterly CARB and EPA heavy-duty sales data releases.
