Chinese-Made Components in UK Royal Navy K3 Scout Drones Sent 'Heartbeat' Signals to China; MoD Finds No Data Breach

An investigation by The Telegraph revealed that cameras installed on Royal Navy K3 Scout uncrewed surface vessels contained Chinese-made components that transmitted routine 'heartbeat' communications to an IP address in China. The drones, supplied by British firm Kraken Technology Group to the Royal Marines and specialist forces, were acquired for surveillance and maritime operations under Project Beehive. A routine Ministry of Defence cyber vulnerability assessment identified the signals, prompting the removal of internet connectivity from the affected cameras.
