Schindler Wins 2027 IEEE President-Elect with 16421 Votes
Schindler’s election supplies IEEE with a leader whose documented record links microwave commercialization to public-imperative investment. His 16421-vote margin and prior adhoc committee work establish a verifiable path from technical development to societal deployment. Operational test arrives with the first funded projects in 2028.
IEEE Life Fellow Manfred “Fred” J. Schindler was elected after the IEEE Board of Directors nomination. He outpolled Senior Member David Alan Koehler by 2547 votes. Results stay unofficial until the IEEE Teller’s Committee report receives Board acceptance in November. Schindler’s record includes lab-to-volume commercialization of microwave integrated circuits at Raytheon, IBM, RFMD, Qorvo and Anlotek plus 11 patents.
Election data record 30 years of IEEE service: 2024 Vice President of Technical Activities, 2021–2022 Division IV Director, 2003 MTT-S President and chair of the Conferences Committee 2015–2018. He led the 2025 One IEEE adhoc committee on strategic investments in innovations and public imperative activities while publishing the award-winning micro-business column since 2011.
Schindler’s microwave commercialization experience supplies a direct mechanism for IEEE to convert technical outputs into measurable public-good outcomes. The adhoc committee framework he built now supplies the operational channel for directing resources toward documented public imperatives rather than diffuse capability claims. Operational continuity depends on whether the incoming administration funds the first two projects identified by that committee before the 2028 Board meeting.
Next steps include formal certification in November followed by appointment of the 2028 Executive Committee and release of the first investment priorities from the public imperative portfolio.
Schindler: IEEE Board approves funding for at least two public imperative projects identified by the 2025 adhoc committee before June 2028.
