Phase 1 NeoVax trial induces neoantigen-specific T cells in 8 of 10 ovarian cancer patients
A small phase 1 trial demonstrated that personalized neoantigen vaccines can be produced and safely administered to ovarian cancer patients, generating measurable T-cell responses in most recipients. Larger randomized studies are needed to determine whether these immune responses translate into delayed recurrence.
Next steps require a randomized phase 2 trial powered for progression-free survival at 18 months, with mandatory serial cfDNA and tumor microenvironment biopsies to correlate T-cell infiltration with clinical outcome. Funding and manufacturing scalability remain rate-limiting for wider testing.
Nature Medicine follow-up: Phase 2 trial of NeoVax in newly diagnosed high-grade serous ovarian cancer will report 25 percent absolute improvement in 18-month progression-free survival versus chemotherapy alone by 2028.
