Developers drove traffic via deepfake celebrity ads on social platforms, then served high-volume interstitial ads after install. Listings were often renamed post-indexing to evade search-based detection, with some developers repeating the pattern across accounts. No malware payloads were observed, confirming the objective was ad revenue extraction at scale.

Procurement and incident records show this tactic aligns with prior vapor app campaigns on Play Store that accumulated 60 million downloads before removal. The absence of inter-user feedback in Early Access creates a structural blind spot that external advertising exploits. Trademark abuse, including fake GTA V titles with AI-generated screenshots, further demonstrates repeatable infrastructure for rapid iteration.

Independent analysis of Play Store metadata reveals clusters of similar listings with install counts in the thousands but zero visible ratings, a pattern official Google statements on developer verification have not addressed.
