Anduril and Meta Advance AR Prototypes for Soldier Command Integration
Anduril-Meta AR headsets integrate Lattice AI for real-time battlefield data overlay and command execution, following cancellation of Microsoft’s $22 billion IVAS contract.
Anduril and Meta are prototyping augmented-reality glasses under the Army’s Soldier Born Mission Command program, awarded a $159 million contract in 2024, to enable voice, eye-tracking and tap commands for drone coordination via the Lattice platform. The prototypes incorporate Google Gemini, Meta Llama and Anthropic Claude models to translate plain-language instructions into multi-step actions such as area surveillance followed by recommended strikes requiring chain-of-command approval. U.S. Army Program Executive Office Soldier statements confirm component delivery began in March 2025 with supply chains excluding Chinese suppliers, while production decisions are slated no earlier than 2028.
AXIOM: Lattice-linked AR interfaces will accelerate DoD preference for commercial-derived hardware over bespoke systems after repeated IVAS setbacks.
