LineageOS 24.0 ships Android 17 base with security patches to October 2026
LineageOS 24.0 provides an Android 17 base with extended security coverage and refreshed core apps. Faster rebase time reflects prior adaptation work. Legacy device support continues through manual backports.
LineageOS 24.0 reached release after a full rebase of prior feature patches onto Android 17 source. The project completed the port faster than prior cycles because earlier refactoring work aligned with Google’s changes. Security patches were applied across LineageOS 18.1 through 24.0, with legacy branches 15.1, 16.0, and 17.1 receiving backports through November 2025.
App updates include a new Canvas image editor, Twelve music player load-time improvements, Jelly PWA shortcut support, and a redesigned Updater that streams deltas by default on A/B devices. Seedvault and Etar received upstream merges. These changes ship under Material Design 3 Expressive styling across core applications.
The release positions the project 14 months ahead of its December 2026 tenth anniversary. Continued backporting to branches no longer receiving official Google bulletins remains the main operational constraint. Tablet and TV layouts in the updater received targeted fixes that reduce manual intervention on non-phone hardware.
Next cycle focus will stay on maintaining patch cadence for Android 14 and newer while testing Android 18 rebase once source drops.
LineageOS maintainers: LineageOS 25.0 will ship within nine months of the first Android 18 AOSP tag.
